Start A New Year With Aa For Aardvark
Yes, this piece from the Associated Press is a little dated:
Amani, shown here, was born Dec. 8 to mother Rachaael and father Mchimbaji, at the Detroit Zoo. Amani means "peace" in Swahili.
‘Hideously cute’ baby aardvark born at Detroit Zoo
Dec 23, 2008
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — The stork has left a baby aardvark at the Detroit Zoo.
The zoo announced Tuesday that the 23-inch creature was born hairless but boasting four-inch ears early in the morning of Dec. 8. It weighed 3 pounds, 10 ounces.
Zoo Director of Conservation and Animal Welfare Scott Carter said in a news release that the animal "can only be described as hideously cute."
The infant is named Amani, the Swahili word for "peace." Its gender is unknown pending a DNA test.
The zoo in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak says zookeepers are helping new mother Rachaael raise Amani due to aardvarks’ clumsy nature and poor eyesight.
The long-snouted African mammals can grow up to 5 to 6 feet in length and weigh 90 to 145 pounds.
But given the tradition of posting baby photos on New Year’s Day, what better way to kick off the year than with the Aa’s?
Happy New Year everyone!

What is it with the media and creatures with big ears?
Incidentally, my local military exchange already has Guilty on sale. I was shocked when I saw it. My husband purchased a copy for me for Christmas but I bought it anyway. I love the chapter on single motherhood.
Happy New Year!
UGH!! What an ugly little guy. Hello everyone….Hope you all enjoyed the New Year and drank you’re butts off. I know I did.
Well I am ordering my book by way of Human Events , can’t wait. T.V alert. For anyone who checks future guest appearances by way of their cable remote, have I got a doozy for you. I see that Ann is appearing on the View Jan.12th to promote Guilty.
I hope she’s just as shy as Bill O’Reilly was. Ha…Ha… How much do you wanna bet Joy Baher can’t make it in that day?. Hope it really is true. I will be checking Ann’s regular website to see if she posts the appearance. Please Ann, say it’s true. This is exactly what’s needed. To get out there in mainstream media (whether we like it or not) and let them know our strong opinions count. We will not disappear over the next 4 years. Just hanging around with the yes and agree crowd won’t cut it. Meaning Fox, talk radio, Drudge etc. That’s our rely on team. That’s a given, so no matter how nasty this girl get together may get ( in all honesty I want them to be civil) we just have to bear with it. No backing down. Ann has already started the New Year in a bold way with once and for all saying out loud that this Kwanzaa jazz, no body that I know, has ever bought into it. It’s just lib nonsense that has run it’s course. Hopefully in time, after the inauguration, and all the baloney that’s gonna be there. The American people will do just the same. Let it run it’s course and we can be Americans again. Have a blessed New Year to everyone at this site. You deserve it!!!
Yikes, what a scary little creature but perhaps cute in his own way.
BL-I hope this Kwanzaa goes the way of the DoDo bird. Here in the DC area we’ve heard non-stop about the “temporary” home that The Belle and the Punishments have moved into. The Messiah descends from the clouds to the Hay Adams tomorrow. Be glad you don’t live here in DC because it’s terrible, non-stop gibberish about how the clouds will part and the sun will shine again and the world will love us once again.
I’m anxiously awaiting Ann’s new book myself and her appearance on the Blabber show. As for the Spew-Behar is sadly a “sister” from my sorority-Delta Zeta. It’s quite disgusting since she’s listed as a “famous sister”. Really sad.
catie, My heart goes out to you. Can’t imagine it! Look, I don’t know if this is the page to get into this. (What with that strange little guy above). But here it goes. I do hope anyone who logs in after reading this can see this as truly a concerned American. I am deeply concerned with what is happening in the middle east. As some one of Jewish faith, I was always raised to believe that when some one attacks you’re home first, you have every right to defend it. Now I know that automatically the reaction is,”well all they’re doing is defending they’re home. Well I am always amazed at how such a small state, surrounded by such an enormous Arab nation of people feel so threatened by this small state. Now I know the reaction is “Well the USA helps them out and supports them. Of course, they are the lone democracy over they’re. Why shouldn’t the US show concern. Other than Israel and Great Britian ( and I wonder about them to sometimes). Who else is there? Europe has given in to this growing mindset and don’t respond to anything anymore. A true Christian understands one thing. The whole purpose of a Jewish state is for one reason and one reason only. To protect that little piece of earth that the No# 1 son was born in. Israel has the same attitude as Hamas to fight and defend to the very end. But the main difference here to understand is that a holy son was not born in their part of the middle east. Every leader over there from Golda Mier to the present shows that same saddened look whenever these brutal attacks take place. All they want is for the world to understand that they too deserve a homeland. They owe it to their one and only representation that the good lord allowed to walk this earth. Now if only the media, with the exception of Fox and radio, could be so brazen as to admit this. I tell you the world could be at peace. The real scary and concerning thing is this. Several weeks back Rush Limbaugh, as usual spoke the honest to God truth when he said, “Well we have a rookie radical taking over soon”. I have noticed he (Obama) hasn’t had to much to say on this situation. I really, in my heart, believe that somewhere in him, he has a soft spot for both Hamas and Palestine. As we have seen in the past, when this situation cools down, what next? For sure they have big plans on how to hurt the US again. No doubt…a rookie radical takes over soon…his own state has politicians who show no concern for the people they are supposed to represent…he shows a quiet neutral attitude with this brutal behavior in the middle east…Ronald Reagan once said “The nuclear war can never be won and should never be fought”. I truly believe it is up to the average folks who see this and know this to scream it everywhere, Fox, radio, internet, conserv. newspapers that this term of presidency will be held accountable and finger pointed at ( just like Bush was after 9/11 ). In the event he allows this country to be hurt that badly. Don’t mistake that last line-Bush was a wonderful Pres. If anybdy gets blamed, it’s that gettin’ blow jobs in the oval office pres. who did nothing but wanna be friends with everybody and turned the military into a social experiment: again Limbaugh quote, he carries the weight of 9/11 and he knows it. Also I am outraged at these aging celebrities, Barbra Striesand, Dustin Hoffman, Rob Reiner (he really is a meathead) and the fact that they are willing to go against their own people and kiss up to these haters. Very sadly it reminds me of a story my mom told me years ago, when some Jews were willing to take their own to the ovens. I think I was the only Jew who wasn’t upset with Ann last year when she appeared on that cable show. Think about it… True Christians are really the ones who understand that Israel must preserve that bithplace!!
BL-I don’t hold out much hope for the Obama administration. Suddenly “we only have one President at a time” is the mantra even though he flew into DC on an US Air Force plane-bearing the United States of America logo (and shock of shockers the Flag) and on the door was the Seal of the President of the United States in this mornings Washington Times.
Part of my family is Jewish and I don’t understand the typical leftist views that most Jews have. The “celebs” you mentioned are typical though of many of the Jewish people I know. My cousin is a Naval officer and is Jewish. His siblings and to some extent his parents think this is “not a good career choice” even though it’s been his “choice” for nearly 20 years. They think he’s an “aggressor”.
I used to teach and I used to have a survivor of the holocaust come and speak to my students. He actually denied me a car loan (when I first got out of college and wanted to buy a brand new Chrysler LeBaron Convertible) when I saw the numbers on the inside of his arm. For 15 years until his death, he came to my class and spoke about how his own father had been one of those who up until the end thought that if they did what the Nazis wanted, they’d leave them alone. When they were exiting the train and being put into two lines-one who would die immediately and one who may or may not live another day, he saw his father one last time and the realization was all over his father’s face that he had been wrong.
Let’s hope that this next administration is held accountable. I don’t feel so sure. They still have no qualms about Clinton and his administration preferring instead to lay all blame at the feet of Bush.
Thankyou so much for responding. I feel much better knowing that the majority of what I’m seeing on the nightly news is really not the “majority”. The sane folks are right here. Well the good news is everybody is back from vacation. Anyone who listens to Rush and the other guys know who I’m talking about. That makes me feel a little better too. I just hope that after the 20th, that fairness thing doesn’t sneak in and I turn on Rush and I’m listening to old Sinatra medleys. Not that I don’t like Sinatra, my Dad was Italian so I had no choice. I just don’t want different programs sneaking in and we have to accept it. I am trying my best to remain calm. Thankyou again catie and for the all the wonderful regulars who log in just about everyday. You are truly the best friends I have never known personally. Best of luck to us all in 2009.
