Shocker: Franken Wins MN ‘Recount’
From an elated Associated Press:
Franken Is Ahead as Recount For Minn. Senate Seat Ends
By Brian Bakst
Sunday, January 4, 2009ST. PAUL, Minn., Dec. 3 — Victory in Minnesota’s drawn-out Senate race moved within Democrat Al Franken’s grasp Saturday when he increased his lead over Republican Norm Coleman as the statewide recount drew to a close.
The state Canvassing Board will reconvene Monday to declare which candidate received the most votes in the election. Barring court intervention, it will be Franken.
Franken’s lead stands at 225 votes after Saturday’s review of formerly sealed absentee ballots. The new total was reached the day that Coleman’s term as senator expired.
The 933 absentee ballots were among those rejected by poll workers but later found to have been excluded in error. The campaigns eventually agreed that those ballots be added to the recount.
Unless Coleman wins a pending court petition that seeks to add hundreds more ballots to the recount, the counting is done and the Canvassing Board can sign off on the result on Monday or Tuesday. The result cannot be certified for at least a week under state law. In that time, the loser of the recount can challenge the result in court…
Senate Republican leaders have said the chamber should not seat Franken until all legal matters are settled, even if they drag on for months.
But of course Franken will be seated.
We all know by now that Democrats only have to get close in any election anywhere and the recounting will make up the difference.
Just like in the third world countries they so admire.

I swear to God, if Republicans sit down and take it on this one…
Help me, tell me what can I do? The Newspapers in the state are complicit in this treason. As are the the television news and MPR. They’re quite happy to report that Franken is the winner and quite content to ignore the fact that more votes were counted in the “recount” than were cast in the election.
Of course the Republicans will sit and take this because we have a bunch of wimps in Washington who will try to “get along” in the spirit of John McCain. This is not shocking one bit, what shocks me is that it took this long.
Remember the 04-state of Washington Gov. election? Same thing here. The Republicans will sit and take this and be happy about it too. We really need to get rid of this deadwood in Congress but unfortunately they’re all almost back.
Doug-I don’t think there is anything we can do, especially if the Republicans accept this with a smile.
Sad to say, here is the entire RNC comment on this disgrace (Franken is probably quaking in his boots, right?):
WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan announced the following statement tonight.
“Al Franken’s declarations of victory are as inaccurate as they are premature. This recount has taken some time and we won’t know a winner for weeks to come. And, when a winner finally does emerge, we are confident it will be Norm Coleman.
During this process, Minnesotans have shown a great amount of patience and respect; Al Franken and Washington Democrats should follow their lead and do the same.”
