Obama: Re-Election Hangs On Stimulus

From the Politico:

Obama: Re-election rests on stimulus

By ANDY BARR | 2/2/09

President Barack Obama acknowledged Monday that the fate of his re-election four years from now likely rests on the success of the proposed $825 billion stimulus package.

“A year from now, I think people are going to see that we’re starting to make some progress. But there’s still going to be some pain out there,” Obama predicted during an interview on NBC’s “Today Show.”

“If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”

In acknowledging that his political fortune hinges on the state of the economy, Obama urged the country to be patient in waiting for the stimulus to take effect.

“I do have confidence that we’re going to be able to get it right. But it’s not going to be overnight,” he said. “There are no silver bullets to this. The fact of the matter is that we are suffering from a massive hangover from a binge of risk-taking.”

Obama also said he is not worried about the long term political impact of the partisan House vote on the stimulus last week, saying that building relationships across the aisle will take time.

“Listen, it’s only been ten days,” the president said. “People have to recognize that it’s going to take some time for trust to be built, not only between Democrats and Republicans, but between Congress and the White House; between the House and the Senate. We’ve had a dysfunctional political system for a while now.”

Once again we see that Mr. Obama is more concerned about his re-election than he is the fate of our country.

And never mind the logic here:

“There are no silver bullets to this.

Is he not claiming that his stimulus bill is a silver bullet? If not, why the rush?

And won’t the country be out of this recession in four years? If not, it will be one of the longest in the history of mankind.

As for Mr. “We Won” Obama’s comments about partisanship, one can only laugh a sad laugh.

  1. He’s practically directing his minions to call their senators to pass this bill or there will be gruel and porridge for the next 4 years. You can hear the hard-sell in his voice. Every Democratic congressman I’m accidentally hearing on the networks for the last few days has been singing from the same hymnbook, saying, “If those Republicans don’t change their course soon the fate of the people is grim.”

Obama, Biden, and the Democrats in congress have really got a lot invested in slipping this bill through, it seems.

We should pick through this behemoth 647-page spending list a little closer, methinks.

The solidarity in the House Republicans is nice to see, however. And at least we have Jon Kyl in the Senate sounding a clear defense against passing this thing. Perhaps we can see the mounting of a dignified, principled, and motivated loyal oppposition. (fat chance, I know)

You are right, Admin, when you say, “Is he not claiming that his stimulus bill is a silver bullet? If not, why the rush?”

Yeah, the silver bullet to stop the werewolf. Funny, he’s already running and he hasn’t been in office a month yet.

    • Yep, he’s actually so full of himsef that he thinks we’re Obamaniacs first, Americans second. It’s all a passion play, and he’s the lead role, the Messiah. We can’t let Obama fail. We can’t let Obama fail We can’t let Obama fail. We can’t…

I think this boy has been told that he’s wonderful too many times growing up. You know how it is when (most) grandparents raise their grandkids, like Barry experienced. They obviously spoiled him.

And the spoiling continued when media first noticed him in the 2004 Dem Convention. He has been handled with kids gloves for so long that he thinks he can nominate his crooked Blago-types right under our noses and we’ll let it pass because he’s our Chosen One.

How much longer do we have to wait for him to grow up and take this job seriously?
