@Latinos4JohnnyMac:

I worked for a popular immigration attorney for a while some years ago. My parents are immigrants, and I have many many friends of all nationalities who are as well. Don't get me started on immigration.... Actually, I hold a pretty unpopular view on immigration with conservatives because I agree with the Bush/McCain/Palin stance: eventual path to citizenship, except with a rigorous application process.

I think Republicans are right about the wall and security first, right about going after Latinos that demand things that they have no right to, right about a lot of things, really. My view has more to do with.....basically, undeserved mercy. But more on that issue some other time.

The most important one is rebuilding for the next election.

I bookmarked your page. Looking forward to that blog.

@latinchic,

You're spot on. Stay with it, sister. Here are some facts Hispanics totally didn't know for this election:

* Obama voted for a wall between the US and Mexico, then went to Berlin and delivered a speech against walls. WTF?

*McCain voted for the wall, but he did it after working for the Latino community for decades, unlike Obama who just voted for it to please blue collar whites in the Rust Belt.

*McCain went to Latin America to solidify ties with Colombia and Mexico. Had he become president, we would have had a commander in chief with longstanding knowledge of our home countries and a solid, unaggressive way to counter Chavez.

*Obama never went to Latin America during the campaign and knows nothing about it.

*Most Latinos I know had no idea Obama was pro-choice. They thought he was pro-life.

*Latinos had no idea how much work McCain did to encourage immigration. They think Obama is pro-immigrant, which is absurd. The candidates had the same views on immigration, but McCain had a long history of bringing people together and making compromises, and switching gears if necessary. Obama will simply be tripping mines right and left on the immigration issue.

I am going to blog an extended piece on the Latino Disaster of 2008. I am still researching things. It is tragic.

And it is tragic that the RNC missed the boat on this whole issue. The problem is that Republicans have been too honest on the immigration issue -- they are up front about wanting to close the borders, and they tend to understate the humanity they show toward Hispanics. Most Latinos had no idea how much Mike Huckabee did to help Hispanic immigrants. I don't understand why Republicans keep their multicultural instincts secret. There is probably also a little racism on the right wing that has to play itself out.

But we'll keep plugging.

"There is hope. 31% of Latinos voted for McCain. And 67% of Latinos are wrong, yet in need of a little loving correction."

You see, this is what's so crazy about the whole thing. I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, right next to a predominantly African-American neighborhood. I'm 28 years old and I do a lot of work with teens and young adults with my Hispanic church and my community. I am not afraid at all about talking about current events and politics. Here's something I've learned:

In regards to politics, the only knowledgeable people I've talked to so far...are the people in MY OWN FAMILY. It boggles my mind that so many of my people vote and they have no idea where the candidates stand on so many issues. If they get any info at all, which many don't because they're too busy watching spanish soaps, they get it from Univision and Telemundo (a.k.a. the Democrat Party Networks). (And I'm always amazed if the men watching those networks actually pay attention instead of being distracted by the tight, short skirts the women wear.)

Getting the Latino vote, and the African-American vote for that matter, is ABSOLUTELY DOABLE. But the RNC needs to make a concerted, strategic effort to reach out to them. I am so tired of the lies that my people buy- and the RNC does not combat this. The abortion issue alone disgusts the Latinos I talk to- they have no idea about the realities of it or what many in the Democrat party believes!

I lived in New Jersey for 4 years, and had many Latino, African-American, and Indian friends.......same thing. Most of these people don't even know that they DON'T KNOW.

Goodness, RNC, get with the program.

By the way, whoever is on Facebook, I have joined about 9 Bobby Jindal groups. They're cropping up everywhere, and one has 10,000 members already (just in the last week.) I'm there, feel free to befriend me. :)

@Flession,

There is hope. 31% of Latinos voted for McCain. And 67% of Latinos are wrong, yet in need of a little loving correction. Part of the problem is that you get a bunch of Latinos together and we just like to have fun. I almost never talk politics with other Hispanics, and I don't know how most of them vote. I don't even know how most people at my church vote.

@celina, I was only kidding. If I were to be ex-Latin I would have to change my screen name.

One thing is clear: The Republicans have to win back that other 67% of Latinos or they will never have the electoral votes to win an election. Maybe they need to hear me, Flession, celina, and latinchic to sell Republicanism? Latino Republicans on TV are always so old and scary looking.

Well, at any rate, I'm doing my best. Yep, here's my website again: http://www.bronzepage.com / It's all Latino conservatism, all day, 24/7/365. And free. :)

Latinos, you are a greedy tool of the capitalist class because you haven’t hugged a jihadist today!

This is such a awesome tool...

But yea, Latin people have become more and more Liberal over the year and I'm not sure how. My in-laws, for instance, are borderline stereotypical Leftists. My mother-in-law brought up a baseless arguement (read, shouted at me) about Bush profiting from the Bailout thru the stock market. She likes me, but doesn't like the fact that her daughter married a Conservative. (at least it doesn't have to do with me not speaking any Spanish...or naming my future son "James": The hispanic translation sounds silly.)

At least they're adamantly against illegal immigration...

I have brought my wife from the refuges of the Left into a more Centralist kind of manner, but alas, not everyone can marry a tall, handsome, clever, and dashing gringo: there's only so much of me to go around!

I like the idea of starting a Spanish-based paper. I think you can really begin to break what the Left has done to them more and more with such publications. They need a right-based opinion that doesn't focus on us being EEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIILLL Conservatives.

@Latinos-I forgot about him-my husband was in the QM corps and won a few St. Martin of Tours awards and our daughter was baptized at the Catholic Chapel-AKA St. Martin of Tours when we were at Fort Lee-I guess the Italian Martin is the only one that popped in my head.
Sorry for getting it wrong.

This is sick.

I'm going to seriously consider pursuing freelance journalism in spanish to combat this. I've just about had enough of the biased liberalism on spanish tv, print, and media in general. I can't stand it anymore.
