Obama Portrayed As Saint In Latino Paper

From the New American Media:

Obama Portrayed as Saint in Latino Newspaper

El Planeta, Posted: Nov 08, 2008

BOSTON – Barack Obama is compared to a saint on the front page of the Nov. 6, 2008 edition of Boston’s weekly Spanish-language newspaper El Planeta. The frontpage article is titled, “San Martín de Obama” and includes 12 illustrations of Obama dressed in robes and holding a crucifix.

The article calls the Illinois senator’s quick rise to the presidency a “miracle.” “Obama has achieved miracle after miracle… feats worthy of a saint,” El Planeta reports. “We will see what this ‘saint’ is made of.”

Images depicting Mr. Obama as a saint have been knocking around the internet for some time:

And that is not even including our watchdog media’s photographers.

Time will tell, of course.

plaster saint

a virtuous person; freq. in ironical use, a person who makes a show of virtue; a hypocrite.

However, he could turn out to be one of the other kind.

  1. Doesn’t anyone else find this even remotely creepy?

  2. AC.rocks

I was just reading a post somewhere that called him the anti-Christ.

    yes, creepy
    and scary.

  3. I have no idea what has happened to my community. After reading this I am considering changing my race to white.

  4. catie

So, he’s supposed to be St. Martin of Tours? Wow, that’s a bit strange since St. Martin was a military officer and is the patron saint of the Quartermaster Corps in the US Army-but what do I know. How weird is this? He’s pictured as St. Francis, St. John Bosco, & St. Patrick. Can anyone tell me why?

  5. I think the main saint is St. Martin de Porres, a Latin American saint who is famous for being dark skinned.

  6. Celina

Creepy doesn’t even begin to describe it. These people should be ashamed of themselves. My people disappoint me.

  7. Celina, maybe you and I can form a cult of ex-Latinos.

  8. snakehandler

    Interesting, if frightening images.

I’m not quite sure what to make of the comment at the end: “However, he could turn out to be one of the other kind.” Is the Admin saying he might be a real saint or a plaster saint? As for a “real saint,” even if one grants the remote possibility that Obama will turn out to be Mr. Moderate, or even a small-government conservative as some foolish pseudo-cons e.g. Buckley, Adelman, etc. seem to believe, I see no basis for acting on that belief. I wish there was reason to “hope.” Best to prepare for the worst. The difference between the candidates as Thomas Sowell stated was that one was a disaster, the other a catastrophe. Welcome to the catastrophe. Enjoy the flight.

Note: I’m thinking that the site, fine one that it is, might consider changing its name soon. Suggestions include:
    * “SurvivingtheCatastrophe”
    * “TheFourYearHangover”
    * “VoteForPalinGingrich”
    * “YesTheWorldDoesEndin2012″.

Perhaps a contest is in order?

  9. Ohhh constructive fun!

    My Suggestions:
    GetDrunkToForgetMcCain
    ItsOnlyVodkaNowComrade
    DrinkEnoughToForgetFreedom

  10. I object the second one, Jason..

We, the people, of the Socialist Republic of the Amerikas, have subsidized rum. Vodka is only for those who can afford it, komrade.

  11. The Right Wing in Exile?

Whatever you choose to name the site, let’s do it. I’d like to put McCain behind us and start brainstorming for 2012. The standard Republican leadership is in so much disarray, it will take a grassroots movement of new conservatives to start anything worthwhile. This site is one of the better ones I’ve seen.

  12. Flession.. When addressing me, try the rhetoric culled from the progressive truth generator at this site:
    http://www.thepeoplescube.com/....._Truth.php

One such statement might be “Jason, you are a cold-hearted racist because you consider the UN feckless debating society that should be disbanded! ”

LOL just punch in different names and you’ll know how to properly address our right wing friends here..

Just something my funnybone needed.. afterward, beg the nearest Saint Obama figurine for forgiveness..

  13. James, you are a reactionary tool of the capitalist class because you think that Black people can make it without your help!

  14. drunk4ever

I can’t decide if I’m glum or blue. You get in touch with lots more negative emotions when you’re drunk all the time and I’m on a binge the likes of which I’ve never seen. In my stupor I keep seeing images of my opponent not just cast as the victor but as a GOD? Have I eaten too many tequila worms or am I really witnessing a deification? They tricked me into thinking they were just a bunch of godless cretins, when in fact they do love god as long as, I don’t know, he’s wearing the right kind of sneakers… the cool kind. Here I was thinking I was in locked in a death spiral with the atheistic legions of satan when, SURPRISE!! They always were religious they just hadn’t found the right deity (sorry, GUY) to worship.

Seeing as I was just a dumb-dumb who didn’t see this one coming, I’m going to crawl back into my bottle and snooze a bit longer… Maybe when I come out next time he’ll have taken his rightful place in the trinity (maybe it’ll be the “quad”nity by then. or maybe the Holy Spirit will have tired of the infighting and will just go start his own band) and all will be well. I guess if as it’s been purported that St. Obama will pay our mortgages, give us jobs, freshen our breath and deliver us from any responsibility, then worrying about anything is not just useless, but might just be classified as a sin against Obama himself. I’ve got to think the punishment for that would be along the lines of being cast onto the coals of Hell or getting a one way ticket to one of of Bill Ayers re-education camps.

    Sleepy now… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  15. drunk4ever,

I just blogged about the post-Obamagasmic situation for conservatives. We’re in good shape, for a few reasons. Obama seems to be acting rather conservative. His friends on the far Left, as Mike Huckabee has pointed out, are the ones who will feel burned by the impending compromises Obama will have to make. And those guys on the Left will have lost everything — they killed off the Clintons thinking Obama would be a socialist, and now, as Ralph Nader told CounterPunch, “the Left has nowhere to go.”

The Right is in a great position now. Many of our policies will in fact be implemented: Obama will hold back the forces of socialism and will probably softpedal any tax plans, for fear of triggering a revolt from the Independents who put him in office. He’s spurning the far Left and will effectively silence them (hooray!) But Obama will also accumulate a lot of problems that will make 2012 ripe for a new revolution.

Obama will be Bush 3.0, essentially — compassionate conservatism warmed over, freeing conservatives to spend a few years hatching a grand plot for a new age. It feels great.

  16. latinchic

    This is sick.

I’m going to seriously consider pursuing freelance journalism in spanish to combat this. I’ve just about had enough of the biased liberalism on spanish tv, print, and media in general. I can’t stand it anymore.

  17. Good for you, latinchic. We need more like you.

  18. @latinchic, I’m totally with you, colega. Who sold the Latino community to liberals and forgot to tell me about it?

  19. Celina

Latinos4JohnnyMac- I am going to have to part company with you on the “ex-latin” thing:) I fully intend to bring anyone I can back to their conservative roots kicking and screaming if I have to (metaphorically speaking of course:))

As for the website name change. I am partial to 4yeardonkeyshow. com myself (almost totally kidding)

  20. catie

@Latinos-I forgot about him-my husband was in the QM corps and won a few St. Martin of Tours awards and our daughter was baptized at the Catholic Chapel-AKA St. Martin of Tours when we were at Fort Lee-I guess the Italian Martin is the only one that popped in my head.
    Sorry for getting it wrong.

  21. Latinos, you are a greedy tool of the capitalist class because you haven’t hugged a jihadist today!

This is such a awesome tool…

But yea, Latin people have become more and more Liberal over the year and I’m not sure how. My in-laws, for instance, are borderline stereotypical Leftists. My mother-in-law brought up a baseless arguement (read, shouted at me) about Bush profiting from the Bailout thru the stock market. She likes me, but doesn’t like the fact that her daughter married a Conservative. (at least it doesn’t have to do with me not speaking any Spanish…or naming my future son “James”: The hispanic translation sounds silly.)

At least they’re adamantly against illegal immigration…

I have brought my wife from the refuges of the Left into a more Centralist kind of manner, but alas, not everyone can marry a tall, handsome, clever, and dashing gringo: there’s only so much of me to go around!

I like the idea of starting a Spanish-based paper. I think you can really begin to break what the Left has done to them more and more with such publications. They need a right-based opinion that doesn’t focus on us being EEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIILLL Conservatives.

  22. @Flession,

There is hope. 31% of Latinos voted for McCain. And 67% of Latinos are wrong, yet in need of a little loving correction. Part of the problem is that you get a bunch of Latinos together and we just like to have fun. I almost never talk politics with other Hispanics, and I don’t know how most of them vote. I don’t even know how most people at my church vote.

@celina, I was only kidding. If I were to be ex-Latin I would have to change my screen name.

One thing is clear: The Republicans have to win back that other 67% of Latinos or they will never have the electoral votes to win an election. Maybe they need to hear me, Flession, celina, and latinchic to sell Republicanism? Latino Republicans on TV are always so old and scary looking.

Well, at any rate, I’m doing my best. Yep, here’s my website again: http://www.bronzepage.com / It’s all Latino conservatism, all day, 24/7/365. And free. :)

  23. By the way, whoever is on Facebook, I have joined about 9 Bobby Jindal groups. They’re cropping up everywhere, and one has 10,000 members already (just in the last week.) I’m there, feel free to befriend me. :)

  24. What’s your Facebook name?

  25. Bobby Lopez. I’m part of the Los Angeles network.

  26. latinchic

“There is hope. 31% of Latinos voted for McCain. And 67% of Latinos are wrong, yet in need of a little loving correction.”

You see, this is what’s so crazy about the whole thing. I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, right next to a predominantly African-American neighborhood. I’m 28 years old and I do a lot of work with teens and young adults with my Hispanic church and my community. I am not afraid at all about talking about current events and politics. Here’s something I’ve learned:

In regards to politics, the only knowledgeable people I’ve talked to so far…are the people in MY OWN FAMILY. It boggles my mind that so many of my people vote and they have no idea where the candidates stand on so many issues. If they get any info at all, which many don’t because they’re too busy watching spanish soaps, they get it from Univision and Telemundo (a.k.a. the Democrat Party Networks). (And I’m always amazed if the men watching those networks actually pay attention instead of being distracted by the tight, short skirts the women wear.)

Getting the Latino vote, and the African-American vote for that matter, is ABSOLUTELY DOABLE. But the RNC needs to make a concerted, strategic effort to reach out to them. I am so tired of the lies that my people buy- and the RNC does not combat this. The abortion issue alone disgusts the Latinos I talk to- they have no idea about the realities of it or what many in the Democrat party believes!

I lived in New Jersey for 4 years, and had many Latino, African-American, and Indian friends…….same thing. Most of these people don’t even know that they DON’T KNOW.

Goodness, RNC, get with the program.

  27. @latinchic,

You’re spot on. Stay with it, sister. Here are some facts Hispanics totally didn’t know for this election:

    * Obama voted for a wall between the US and Mexico, then went to Berlin and delivered a speech against walls. WTF?

*McCain voted for the wall, but he did it after working for the Latino community for decades, unlike Obama who just voted for it to please blue collar whites in the Rust Belt.

*McCain went to Latin America to solidify ties with Colombia and Mexico. Had he become president, we would have had a commander in chief with longstanding knowledge of our home countries and a solid, unaggressive way to counter Chavez.

*Obama never went to Latin America during the campaign and knows nothing about it.

*Most Latinos I know had no idea Obama was pro-choice. They thought he was pro-life.

*Latinos had no idea how much work McCain did to encourage immigration. They think Obama is pro-immigrant, which is absurd. The candidates had the same views on immigration, but McCain had a long history of bringing people together and making compromises, and switching gears if necessary. Obama will simply be tripping mines right and left on the immigration issue.

I am going to blog an extended piece on the Latino Disaster of 2008. I am still researching things. It is tragic.

And it is tragic that the RNC missed the boat on this whole issue. The problem is that Republicans have been too honest on the immigration issue — they are up front about wanting to close the borders, and they tend to understate the humanity they show toward Hispanics. Most Latinos had no idea how much Mike Huckabee did to help Hispanic immigrants. I don’t understand why Republicans keep their multicultural instincts secret. There is probably also a little racism on the right wing that has to play itself out.

    But we’ll keep plugging.

  28. latinchic

    @Latinos4JohnnyMac:

I worked for a popular immigration attorney for a while some years ago. My parents are immigrants, and I have many many friends of all nationalities who are as well. Don’t get me started on immigration…. Actually, I hold a pretty unpopular view on immigration with conservatives because I agree with the Bush/McCain/Palin stance: eventual path to citizenship, except with a rigorous application process.

I think Republicans are right about the wall and security first, right about going after Latinos that demand things that they have no right to, right about a lot of things, really. My view has more to do with…..basically, undeserved mercy. But more on that issue some other time.

The most important one is rebuilding for the next election.

I bookmarked your page. Looking forward to that blog.

  29. Lopez…that shouldn’t pull up too many results.

    Especially in LA. :P

  30. Haha, Flession. I think you can find me easily because I am the officer for Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley district of Bobby Jindal for 2012. http://www.facebook.com/home.p.....amp;ref=mf
