I am at a loss. People around me think the Ayers link is unremarkable and accuse me of making a big deal out of nothing. This matters, in my estimation. I have to assume that Obama had shared values with Ayers, in order to work with him in the capacities that caused their paths to cross. And the big question is, what are those shared values? Does Obama seek to undermine capitalism and dramatically restructure the world? Is that why he wants to be President? And if the Weathermen thought certain crimes (murder) were okay in the service of a higher cause, does Obama thank certain immoralities (lying, propaganda, smears) are okay in the service of a higher cause too?

@Latinos, did you know that Obama’s wife used to work with Bernadine Dohrn before her and the Messiah married. I don’t buy the fact that they don’t share the same values about hatred towards their government. These two buffons (and probably the terrrorist duo) have had the best educations money can buy. Michelle is about 6 weeks older than I am and I’ve found plenty to be happy about my entire life, so sad that she hasn’t. I believe for these two the end justifies the means. They, like their pals and like their former preacher want a different country, socialist-I don’t know but what they want is not what we’ve been.
I know the Clinton’s were ruthless in their political prowess. However, I don’t know that they wanted to make the country into what the Obama’s want it to be.
Do you ever watch Glenn Beck? He was talking about the Weimar Republic last night. I have been thinking about that myself for the past few months (since Obama got the nod for sure). I think Beck may be overreacting a bit but it’s something I know others who are well versed in history think about as well.
Before the Krazy Kos Kids who troll this site think I’m comparing the One to Hitler-I’m not.

For more on the Ayers/Wright/Obama connection, read Stanley Kurtz’s article on National Review Online.

    @ catie:

I wasn’t aware of Beck’s piece. But I have published an article explaining how the Obama-Hitler parallels — while obviously imperfect, since there was only one Hitler — make more sense than Bush-Hitler parallels.

The Nazis had a specific kind of socialism — National Socialism — that allowed for a free market but involved an activist role of government in the economy. They also organized youth recruitment efforts that are not entirely unlike Obama’s model for a non-military service component which might, Obama has hinted, be compulsory for both sexes of service age. Most importantly, Nazi rhetorical strategies are much more similar to the Obama campaign than to the past Republican campaigns. Blaming the former political system and invigorating mobs with hatred of their own country’s past governance was the central component in Nazi rhetoric — the hatred toward outsiders, while the most important to our political memory, arguably grew out of the beginning premise that the German system was broken, people were “betrayed” by a conspiracy of greed, and they needed drastic “change.” Also, unlike Bush, Obama seems to rely on the help of an alliance between street thugs and effete intellectuals who get lost in the aesthetical exercise and/or don’t notice that the practical implications of their candidate’s victory are fascistic rather than liberatory.

Bush never had strong support from the parts of society that dominate intellectual discourse; university professors and most media commentators were never willing to tow Bush’s line, and any dissimulation that Rove undertook was swiftly exposed. With Obama it’s frighteningly different, especially because Obama comes out of an activist model that stresses the role of ideologically driven education while capturing xenophobic energy by channeling rage at internal “traitors” (those rich people shipping jobs overseas) and promising protectionist measures — which is where Obama’s brand of socialism looks right-wing nationalist (i.e. Nazi) rather than left-wing communist. I think conservatives have misfired by accusing Obama of socialism when in reality Obama’s speeches point to a nationalist, protectionist form of command economy (like Nazism) that doesn’t reject market forces but rather seeks to influence the market through nationalized spending initiatives and propaganda that combines the press, the schools, and streetside intimidation.

Some argue that Bush invaded our privacies, but I can’t see how Bush engaged in much censorship — Obama’s people are actively using lawyers as well as his protest thugs to shout people down and stop opponents from getting their viewpoints across. This is amplified by his monopoly on many media outlets and the professoriate. Obama, therefore, looks more like the 1930s German style of “unifier” than Bush ever was.

Just some rambling thoughts to weigh, since it’s been on my mind as well as yours. Have a good day.

What more is there to add but ditto! Godd night Mrs. Krantz….where ever you are!

  6. I am saddened that these people earn a living from my tax dollars.

O-Who’s first book may have been written by Ayers (Ghosty like) and they totally win with the assistance of corruption at all levels.

While we slept… look what has happened.

@Latinos-I wish there was a way you could post a link to that article. I was talking with my neighbor (the ones whose tires were slashed last week) about the Weimar Republic thing this weekend. Anyway, just saw him a few minutes ago before I read your note. He’s a LTC who goes up for COL next year (my husband has a few more years before he’s up for LTC & if Obama wins, he is looking to retire earlier than previously planned) he said a handful of other people were talking the same thing around the watercooler at the Pentagon yesterday morning (guess they all watch Glenn Beck). He said there’s a definite cut between civie employees and most of the military about this election (well at least in his part of the ring). He said it’s a bit weird to say the least.
It’s nice to have this place to come to because when you talk to many people about that comparison, some go straight to the race card.
BTW last night there was some news story on how someone had their Obama signs taken from their front yard (oh the humanity) and how they were now hanging sheets with their slogans of Hope and the Thou Shalt Not Steal on them. My neighbor actually called the same news station (WJLA here in DC) when his tires were slashed. No interest was given in their plight.
