McCain Going Back On Letterman Show

From a breathless Associated Press:

All is forgiven; McCain returning to Letterman

NEW YORK – David Letterman and Sen. John McCain will get a chance to make up.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to appear on Letterman’s “Late Show” on Thursday.

It will be McCain’s 13th visit to the CBS program but his first since he angered Letterman by canceling last month.

Letterman was unhappy when McCain sat for an interview with Katie Couric instead of him on Sept. 24.

At the time he said he first felt like a “patriot” to let McCain off his commitment to deal with the economy but “now I’m feeling like an ugly date.”

A McCain spokeswoman said at the time that because of the economic crisis, the campaign “felt this wasn’t a night for comedy.”

Why Mr. McCain thinks he needs to go on David Letterman’s show is beyond our ken.

The ever unfunny Letterman (in his booster chair) will be gunning for him with both barrels. Why provide a target?

It’s probably a brainwave from the same fertile mind who subjected Sarah Palin to the decidedly unperky Katie Couric — twice.

I share your incomprehension as to why the good Senator would want to be on the air with Letterman. I watched the show once or twice in the early days, but both were forgettable occasions. Anyone with half a brain should be able to figure out that an invitation issued by the late night crowd has nothing to do with a serious and impartial discussion about anything, especially if it has to do with Conservative politics.
Clowns like Bill Clinton and Barak Obama fit in well with the intellectual atmosphere on these shows (just kidding about the “intellectual”), but nobody ever came down with the bends from Mr. Letterman’s discourse. As for the humour, that would be more at home on the walls of the men’s room in a sleazy bar.
Even more importantly, there is little chance that anyone who watches Letterman has the intestinal fortitude or intellectual honesty to change what little is left of their mind on any subject.
In case you’re wondering I am not a fan of the pseudo-intellectuals that inhabit (or should that be “infest”) the alphabet networks.
Senator, don’t waste your time on the pop culture crowd, do more interviews with Fox News. You might have to shout down the inevitable horde of liberals with whom you will be sharing the time, but your audience will be more receptive as there are still many of us out here looking for a reason to vote at all and you’ve only got three weeks to reach us.

For those of us who don’t stay up that late (talking about the EST here) either because we have real jobs now, or other responsibilities, I have to second this-why? How many people who watch Letterman are actually going to vote for him anyway?

Wow, I can almost pretend to care about David Letterman and McCain going back on his show, but I just cannot pull it off. I did manage a poorly written comment though.

  4. McCain shouldn’t be wasting his time with that clown.

As an Indianapolis resident, I’m quite happy that Dave has long since departed our town for NYC.

  6. Liberals Demise

Just another case in which John is wasting time and effort. It will only matter if Dave chokes on camera and John gives Dave a rib breaking Hymlick squeeze and walks off stage!

  7. IMO the entire network should be flagged as uninhabitable by the McCain camp. Not ONE dollar should go to NBC or it’s affiliates as long as they remain the fifth column for the liberal causes that have done so much damage to our economy.

I am personally swearing off GE products, (no small feat) and switch to CNN or Fox during the prime news time anymore. CNN, just so I can get my freak on.
